These days millions of people live in poverty unable to afford basic life necessities. These people can barely make enough to pay for food, let alone anything else. In order to alleviate some of the strain for these people, the government has instilled many social programs.

One government program that is gaining traction is the free mobile phone program. The purpose of this program is to allow people to have a phone which they can use for emergencies if they cannot afford their own phone.

If you want to get a free cell phone, you have to get qualified first. This can be done by calling up the cell phone provider and seeing if you qualify. Your income is used for the basis for qualification. But if you are already getting other government benefits like food stamps, then you will be able to get a free phone too.

Even though the phone is free, you are only allowed around sixty minutes per month to use for free. Each state is different in terms of the amount of minutes that is allowed for free but it is generally around sixty.

The cell phones may not always be free either. Once you and your family are not in the poverty bracket anymore, then you cannot use the cell phones for free. The cell phone company has to check your income every year.

Get a free cell phone by finding cell phone service providers in your city. Not every state has cell phone providers that give free cell phones so check your area.

Once you get in contact with a carrier, fill out their application and provide to them pertinent information. This information may include your pay stubs and W2s.

Be sure you are keeping track of the amount of minutes you are using. Do not use all of your minutes before the month ends otherwise you will not have any if you absolutely had to use them. You can check the amount of minutes you have used from your phone.
